"Listen to me, I awaken to sunlight that's beyond bright; this day will be done right There is a war just waitin' on the other side of the door. But I'll be bringing God to the gunfight. Before I go, I thought that you all should know this recognize and realize before any regretting before you relapse, perhaps you'll consider resetting Hmm?" This is the contribution of Ceelo Green, featured on this incredible anthem by Outkast's song Reset (2003). This call to my spirit to reset has been my sacred song since hearing it over 18 years ago.
2020 was an amazing year for all of us. Who would have imagined? For me, I was submerged in a toxic work environment, dealing intensely with (for the first time) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), diagnosed with colon cancer, and trying to keep a lid on all of it during one of our country's worst pandemics since the Flu of 1918. Time for a reset. Now I am clever enough to know that resetting a life is not the same as restarting your phone or computer. I know that I cannot just delete past memories, experiences, pain, or halt the necessary growth. To reset a new course of one's life requires more than a little downtime. The mind must shift. The shift occurs when you,
Release unforgiveness from your heart. You cannot reset and hold on to bags. The ones you are holding for yourself and the ones you are holding for others. Let them off the hook and you too.
Ease up on yourself. Reset, it does not come without pain. That sting is necessary. It reminds you of your humanity. All things are connected; growth to pain, pain to healing, healing to wholeness, and wholeness to purpose realized.
Action. The accomplishment of a thing usually over some time, in stages, or with the possibility of repetition. When you move, He moves. Just like that!
Focus and control over emotions. As you become aware of the feeling of your given situation, emotions play a key part in your reset. When you are in tune with them, you begin to unlock the important knowledge that helps with decision-making, the relationships, and interactions with others, tools that empower you to stay in motion.
Take a moment and go within. Each day, each breath, each moment is a gift given to you by life herself. A new beginning, a fresh chance, and an opening for you to create something better, something new. To offer to the world around you that you are purposed to give, and to reveal more of yourself to those you love and to the ones you perhaps will never meet.
We are all given challenges in life. No matter the reason, you can walk out of the room, turn around, walk back in, and boom! Reset.
Won't you consider a reset? Hum hum hum?
